A Strong Cut to Start the Season:

Photo by Chris Carroll of Edgartown.

After an extremely productive and effective dredging season, the headwater of the Pond and a well-timed cut made for a potent opening.  This beautiful video by island photographer David Welch captures the precarious work of the cutting the Pond and the force of the rushing water.  Note the two channels cut by the dredge this season on the Pond side of the barrier beach.  These are the channels that Steve Ewing described as the slice of pie.

When the water is low there are so many things to see and explore.  If you happen to walking the shores of the Pond this week, please throw any exposed oysters back into the water.
