Pre-2017 Newsletters

In 2017 we began using a streamlined newsletter publishing platform, which allows us to send updates directly to your inbox. Prior to this, writing and sending newsletters was more cumbersome, and newsletters were only published once a year. These older newsletters can be found here:

🌿🌊 What happens when a tiny underwater plant starts disappearing?

Eelgrass may look small, but it plays a HUGE role in the health of Edgartown Great Pond and the surrounding ecosystem. 💚
Take a look at this great WBZ Boston story by Jacob Wycoff @4cast4you on our team working to monitor Edgartown Great Pond eelgrass — and why it matters to all of us who love these waters. 🐚🦀🌱

A hopeful sign beneath the surface 🌊🌱

While cyanobacteria blooms are present across many of the Island’s ponds this summer, Edgartown Great Pond is telling a different story.

Why? This @vineyardgazette article, written by Daniella Freedman, explores why Edgartown Great Pond is standing out, what scientists are learning, and what it means for the future of our coastal ponds.

When the team is short on hands, who’s better to call than your dad?!💙 Kendall brought in the ultimate backup…her dad, Grant! 👏🚤 He jumped right in and was a huge help with water quality sampling on Edgartown Great Pond. 🌊💧🧪

Thanks for being a scientist with us for the day, Grant! 👨‍🔬

A few favorite moments from last weekend’s seine net event! 🐟🌊

⭐️Thank you again to everyone who came out, explored the shoreline with us, and helped make it such a fun afternoon. We always love getting to share the incredible marine life found right here in our ponds.

⭐️Again thanks to our partners @friendsofsengekontacket and @islandspiritkayak and @masscultural for making this possible and for providing nets!

🚨If you missed this one, we’ll be back out on **August 8 from 12–2 PM** for another seine net program, this time in collaboration with the @lagoonpond at **Doug’s Cove, Lagoon Pond (Oak Bluffs)**. We hope to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones!
