The 2026 summer field season is officially over, and it was a busy one! Our science team will continue sampling throughout October before wrapping up the official field season and shifting to off-season data analysis and next year planning.

Sampling on Crackatuxet Pond.

The 2026 sampling season kicked off on May 15th. Throughout the summer, the team had weekly field work on 5 ponds with additional site visits and other Board of Health samples from ponds across the Island. Over this past summer, the science team collected 759 water quality samples, 100 nutrient samples, and 62 toxin samples. Our team also visited and got samples from a total of 16 ponds, see graphic.

These numbers will continue to go up as we finish out the field season in these coming weeks. Weekly monitoring will continue as well as one last nutrient run in October!
