2024 Grants
As a non-profit organization, Great Pond Foundation relies on donations and grants to support our annual operating budget. Community support makes our work possible, and we are extremely grateful! Grants support approximately 20% of our annual budget. Here is an overview of the grants received in 2024:
Edey Foundation
This grant supports investigating off-season trends in nutrients, salinity, and the timing/longevity of cuts and it’s influence on Edgartown Great Pond’s health. A portion of the funds also supports the operation of the MV CYANO program.
Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation
Funds received by this grant support the replacing of the monitoring equipment utilized for measuring water elevation along the Mill Brook & within Tisbury Great Pond.
Mass Cultural Council
This grant covered staff salary for our July Beach Seine Science Day as well as the purchase of necessary supplies.
Rotary Club Charity Foundation
Funds received by this grant partially covered the cost of our new soap stone lab countertop in our renovated laboratory.
Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation
These funds cover salary for our Resilient Ecosystem Mentorship. This is an early career position at GPF that nurtures young scientists as they develop the skills to protect MV waters, while also gaining the confidence & experience to begin their professional lives.
Farm Neck Foundation
These funds cover the costs of a “FluoroQuik” kit. This will allow GPF to directly measure phycocyanin concentrations in its cyanobacteria samples, a compound produced by photosynthetic cyanobacteria throughout their growth cycle.
