So far so good!

This graph shows the beginning of the tidal phase. The drainage of the pond started around 4pm on 4/16/24 and the tidal phase began around 3pm on 4/17/24

The Pond level is down! Edgartown Great Pond was cut open to the Atlantic Ocean on the morning of Tuesday April 16, 2024. Within 2 days the level of EGP dropped 3.54 feet!  There are 2 phases to an opening: 1) Drainage and 2) Tidal Exchange. EGP remains open, tidal, and connected to the Atlantic Ocean. For the cut to be considered a success the cut must remain open for 9-11 days.

Regular exchanges of water between the ocean and the Great Pond keep it healthy and teeming with life. We are grateful for the continued efforts of the Town to preserve and protect Edgartown Great Pond.
