RAIN GUAGE:
This September our science team installed a digital rain gauge near Jobs Neck Cove on Edgartown Great Pond. This rain gauge records rain accumulation per hour in 1/100th inch intervals. This provides us with perception accumulation, rate of accumulation, and a timeline of precipitation events.

The data from this logger helps us better understand the impact of rain and groundwater influx patterns in the Edgartown Great Pond watershed.
Using this data, we are able to graph the elevation of EGP vs the local rainfall over the same time period.

EDGARTOWN GREAT POND CUT UPDATE:
When was EGP last cut?

When will EGP be cut again?
Looking at Edgartown Great Pond’s three most recent cuts, the Edgartown Shellfish Constable has opened the Pond around 3.9 ft LMSL (3.5 ft NAVD88) each time. Based on this trend and EGP’s current elevation of 3.24 ft LMSL, the Pond still has about 0.66 ft of elevation rise to go. Let’s hope for more rain and a cut in the near future!
