Great Pond Cut Scheduled-
Edgartown Great Pond will be cut to the Atlantic Ocean the morning of Friday, September 29th, 2023 by the Town of Edgartown. The elevation of the Great Pond is currently 3.67 feet above Local Mean Sea Level (LMSL) and the cut is timed to coincide with the spring tide of the Full Moon.
A spring tide—popularly known as a “King Tide”—refers to the ‘springing forth’ of the tide during new and full moon.

Historically, breaches of Edgartown Great Pond’s barrier beach are successful when the elevation meets or exceeds 3.5 feet LMSL. We are all hoping for an excellent cut and flush of the Pond, refreshing the entire ~900 acres with clean, cool, and salty seawater. We’ll keep you posted.
We are grateful to Edgartown Shellfish Constable, Rob Morrison, for the timely cut update.
