PLANT SAMPLING

Over the summer we ventured out on what felt like a safari! We were joined by scientists from the Marine Biological Laboratory Woods Hole, and Sheriffs Meadow’s botanist to explore the coves of Edgartown Great Pond and Chilmark Pond collecting wetland plants.

This nondestructive sampling method is used to assess how much and what type of nitrogen each plant captures.  Wetlands capture both carbon and nitrogen and are good for the ponds and the planet. This means wetland plants may be one of the solutions to combatting nitrogen pollution!

We want to say thank you to our collaborators and to all those who provided access.

✨Stay tuned, results will be coming within the year after processing and analysis! Preliminary data are promising.
